Aluminium Front Doors
Aluminium front doors are often quite old, and, as such may only have basic locks fitted.
Nightlatch locks, “Yale type locks”, are quite common.
More advanced aluminium front doors may have deadlocks or basic multipoint locking mechanisms fitted, usually operated by a “euro cylinder” type lock barrel
Nightlatches
Nightlatch type locks are very common on older aluminium front doors, they are, however, usually very basic, and, offer very little in the way of security. We can often upgrade an existing nightlatch to something with a much greater security value.
If you are considering replacing such a lock yourself, then, do be careful! Aluminium doors can be dangerous to work on if you are not used to such a thing. You must make sure that any fixings are made well away from the glazed area. It is worth noting too, that many nightlatches available are not compatible with aluminium door types. If in doubt, give us a call.
Sashlocks
Sashlocks on aluminium doors are usually either of the, 5 lever or euro cylinder operated type.
Multipoint Locking Mechanisms
More sophisticated versions may be fitted with multipoint type locking mechanisms. These also often have a nightlatch feature when used on front doors. If this is the case it is vital that you don’t just rely on using the lock “on the latch”, and always properly deadlock the mechanism
Additional Security
Door chains
These give you a chance to verify who is calling at your door, without you risking that they may force their way in
Door Viewers
Aluminium front doors are usually fully glazed, but, often the glass is patterned, making identification of callers difficult. The solution is to install a door viewer or peep-hole, that will allow you to clearly see who’s calling.
